From the moment a student enters a Lower School classroom at Harrisburg Academy, Central PA’s leading private PreK-Grade 12 school, they are transported into a world where faculty provide personal attention for each student, fostering exceptional learning opportunities where anything is possible. From learning to play the violin at age 4 through a fantasy game of mythical creatures and kingdoms under the national-award-winning inspiration of music teacher Michael Gamon, to hands-on, experiential, real-world immersion in math, science, languages and reading, Harrisburg Academy stretches the minds of young students with a whole-child focus that embraces them for who they are, where they are and where they can be in their education journey. All families are welcome to learn more about the Academy at an Open House for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary and Middle Years Programmes on November 1 from 6-7 p.m. The session will take place on-campus in person. Masks are required for all visitors to campus.
“We value parents as the first and most important teachers of their children. As the region’s premier IB World School, we are delighted to invite families to join Academy staff for this interactive Open House highlighting our Primary and Middle Years Programmes,” shared Adrian Allan, head of school. “Our Primary Years Programme teaches early-childhood learners—toddlers to kindergarteners—as well as the Lower School with students in grades 1-5. The Academy’s Middle Years Programme engages students in grades 6-8. We encourage families enrolled in this one-hour session to ask questions and get direct answers from our school leaders and faculty. We’ll delve into our unrivaled educational offerings as the region’s premier IB private, independent, co-educational school.”
Parents or guardians are asked to register here.
“Children are society’s most precious members and leading them to explore the world, discover their unique talents, and reach their fullest potential is our joy and a responsibility we fully embrace,” remarked Abby Mahone, Ed.D., assistant head of school and head of Early Childhood and the Lower School. “We can’t wait to meet families during our upcoming Open House and share our passion for educating their children—the next generation of world leaders and innovators!”
“After many years teaching at the Academy, I’m proud to be in my first year leading our Middle Years Programme. So, it’s with an extra dose of anticipation and excitement that I welcome parents and guardians to this Open House,” noted Lindsay Bowman, head of Middle and Upper Schools. “The pre- and early-teenage years represent a pivotal moment in a young person’s development. Our Academy team focuses on each student as an individual and nurtures their skills as critical thinkers, active global citizens, and empathetic community members who embrace diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.”
Academy leaders will outline the IB learner profile that describes a broad range of human capabilities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. The profiles develop students who are: Inquirers; Knowledgeable; Thinkers; Communicators; Principled; Open-Minded; Caring; Risk-takers; Balanced and Reflective.
Harrisburg Academy seniors who complete the IB program earn a globally respected IB Diploma that sets them apart from their peers.
