In a remarkable journey from a news videographer in Baltimore to honoring his family legacy, Author Preston Mitchum Jr has transitioned his storytelling prowess to write two NEW heartwarming books that aim to uplift and empower young readers of all ages. Mitchum launched his new books just in time for holiday gift giving.
“Positive Vibes Kids” is not only colorful on the outside, but the pages on the inside are filled with beautiful and impactful affirmations to boost self-esteem, promote a positive mindset, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve the overall well-being in children.
“I started writing and posting positive messages on social media as therapy after the sudden loss of my dad to a heart attack,” Mitchum says. “Those messages transitioned into three books on the power of positive thinking for adults. “
Mitchum is a dad now to two young boys and his two new books are aimed at young readers just like them to offer positive tools to boost a positive mindset.
“The sooner we give them tools to boost their self-confidence and create that positivity, the better,” Mitchum says.
“Positive Vibes Kids” tackles themes like “Waking up with Gratitude” and includes short passages for kids nine to 14 years of age to read daily.
“Wake up every morning grateful for the air you breathe and this wonderful life you have,” says Preston Mitchum Jr.
“Positive Vibes Kids” for ages two to seven is a picture book with illustrations the children can look at a create their own imaginative narratives along with the person flipping through the pages of this engaging book with them.

“Researchers tell us that by age three, kids are having brief dialogues with themselves, sometimes aloud at first, and that becomes the self-talk they’ll use as they get older. My books will help them add positivity to that self-talk,” Mitchum says.
A portion of the proceeds from the book sales will go to the PMJ Foundation which Mitchum started 22 years ago to create change in the Baltimore community and impact families through programs and services that offer positive growth. His Career Awareness Project (CAP) after school program brings the professional world to the classroom, where volunteers engage with at-risk youth to explore the infinite possibilities of college and career choices. The Foundation also sponsors a Back-to-School Drive as well as a Holiday Toy Drive annually to help underserved families in the Baltimore area.
